Belmont students came together on Thursday, November 7 to honor our Veterans in a special Veterans Day devotional. Veterans, families, students, and teachers celebrated their love and loyalty for our country and freedom. Our grammar school students presented a beautiful historical thought reminding us of the blessing that is our freedom.
From the very beginning, America has had a history of patriotism
and sacrifice, and a belief that she stands as a city on a hill
spreading her light for all to see. The following are quotes from
Americans through the ages.
Abigail Adams:
“Posterity! You will never know, how much it cost the present
generation, to preserve your freedom! I hope you will make a good
use of it.”
Thomas Paine:
“Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom, must, like men,
undergo the fatigue of supporting it.”
John Quincy Adams:
“Let us then search the Scriptures.... The Bible contains the
revelation of the will of God; it contains the history of the creation,
of the world, and of mankind; and afterwards the history of one
peculiar nation, certainly the most extraordinary nation that has
ever appeared upon the earth.”
Abraham Lincoln:
“Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this
continent, a new nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the
proposition that all men are created equal.”
Franklin D. Roosevelt:
“In the truest sense, freedom cannot be bestowed; it must be
achieved.”
John F. Kennedy:
“Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we
shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support
any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of
liberty.”
Ronald Reagan:
“America is freedom. Freedom of speech, freedom of religion,
freedom of enterprise. And freedom is special and rare. It’s fragile; it
needs protection.”
"There is one thing that the American people always rise to and
extend their hand to, and that is the truth of justice, and of liberty,
and of peace."
On this Veterans Day, let us remember the service of our veterans
and their families who have sacrificed so much so that we can live free.
This historical thought was delivered by our grammar school students at devotional on 11/7/2024. Each week one class leads the student body in prayer, the Pledge of Allegiance, scripture recitation, a meditation, and an historical thought. Family and friends are welcome, Thursdays 8:30-9:05 am.
