Congratulations to Emmett Burns, Evy Burns, Max Davidson, Camilla Heder, Kieran Brentise, Harrison Maughan, and Adler Monson, all of whom were winners in a recent essay competition.

Under the guidance of their composition teacher, Mrs. Wright, students were able to write and submit award-winning essays on “My Pledge to Veterans” and “Why Is The Veteran Important?” Each student submitted their essay within the district they live in.

As the first-place winner for the state of Utah, Emmett read his speech to the entire school during our Thursday devotional earlier this month. Within this essay, Emmett reminded the other students that, as G.K. Chesterton once remarked, "the true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him." In the above picture, Emmett can be seen receiving an award for his first-place essay.

In addition to plaques and medals, some students received pocket constitutions and American flags that have flown over the US Capitol building. At Belmont Classical Academy, students learn to express themselves with clarity in both speaking and writing. They learn and love the story of ordered liberty: from its roots in Jerusalem, Athens, Rome, and London, to America. Belmont students remember with gratitude those who founded, defended, and continue to secure our freedom. Belmont graduates are well-prepared to pass on what they have received to the next generation. _____________________
