Mr. Jared Carman, Head of School
Mr. Carman loves to see students become leaders and doers. Blessed in his youth to attend a classical, Christian school, Mr. Carman has spent the last 25 years helping others teach and learn better. He has founded and led multiple learning technology companies. He served for many years as a board member of his alma mater. With his own children and grandchildren as inspiration, Mr. Carman continues to invest, as others have done before, in the rising generation. Mr. Carman holds an M.S. in Instructional Technology from Utah State University and a B.S. in Psychology from Brigham Young University.

Mrs. Christen Allen
Assistant Head of School
Mrs. Allen strengthens the Belmont community through admissions, on-boarding, and student, teacher, and family experiences.

Mrs. Allen, mother of three Belmont students, has rich experience in admissions at the university level. She loves classical, Christian education, and is eager to share her enthusiasm with others and grow the good at Belmont Classical Academy. Mrs. Allen holds a B.A. in philosophy and theology from St. Catharine University.

Mrs. Boynton
Director of Curriculum
Mrs. Boynton identifies and creates classical, Christian materials of the highest quality, and supports and mentors teachers as they implement curriculum in the classroom.

Mrs. Boynton is an accomplished educator with 20 years of homeschool teaching experience. She earned a B.A. in English from Brigham Young University. She minored in music, served as a Board Advisory Committee Member for the Intermountain Suzuki String Institute, and performs as a bell ringer with Bells on Temple Square. Mrs. Boynton is an avid lover of literature, maintaining an extensive personal library which she generously shares with Belmont faculty and students.

Mrs. Wright
Director of Curriculum
Mrs. Wright identifies and creates classical, Christian materials of the highest quality and supports and mentors teachers as they implement curriculum in the classroom.

Mrs. Wright is an engaging and accomplished teacher who brings out the best in each student. She readily shares her love of literature, poetry, and studying how language works—she loves to learn! After completing a study abroad at the University of Neuchatel in Switzerland, Mrs. Wright received her BA in English Literature with a French minor from the University of Utah. Prior to joining Belmont, she taught for five years at another Christian school, and tutored students in English, French, and ESL. Mrs. Wright is an experienced writer, both in writing copy and blogs.

Ms. Adair
Organist, Accompanist

Ms. Adair earned a Bachelor of Music degree in organ performance from BYU.  She is currently the music director and organist for St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Provo, where she leads the choir, plays, and plans music for services. She loves sacred music, collaboration and accompanying, arranging, choral singing, using music for healing and meditation, and helping others joyfully discover their own musical talents.  She is also an avid dancer and enjoys cooking and spending time in the garden.  She hopes to complete her Masters in Music from BYU in Fall 2024.

 Logic, Rhetoric, Geometry

Mrs. Allan possesses a great passion for sharing knowledge and encouraging growth. She has taught college level English online and in the classroom. Encouraging students to use strategy, creativity, and critical thinking, Mrs. Allan teaches lower school math and rhetoric students at Belmont to accomplish their work with clarity and precision. She holds a Master of Arts in English with an emphasis in education and is currently pursuing her doctorate.

Middle School Science: Astronomy
Mrs. Allen, mother of three Belmont students, loves classical, Christian education, and especially a study of the Middle Ages in Europe. She is eager to share her enthusiasm with others and grow the good at Belmont Classical Academy. Mrs. Allen holds a B.A. in philosophy and theology from St. Catharine University.

Upper Prep Bible Study, Algebra I,
Classical Composition/Literature; Latin I
Mrs. Conley is a lifelong learner filled with a passion for growing and gaining new knowledge. She earned a BA in Liberal Arts and Sciences and Spanish from Utah State University where she excelled as an All-American scholar-athlete.  Over the past 15 years Mrs. Conley has loved and served students, notably teaching Sunday School and homeschooling, where she directed a Shakespeare play.  When she’s not sitting on the sideline of a soccer game or driving her children to music lessons, you can find her poolside with a good book.

Mrs. Gorrell
Primary School

Mrs. Gorrell has been sharing her love of learning with children for more than 45 years. She began her journey as a Certified Montessori educator and director of her own Montessori preschool and later worked with elementary students in various commonwealth schools. She also taught 2nd and 4th grades at American Heritage School. Mrs. Gorrell holds a Master's Degree in Teaching Through the Arts from Leslie University and believes that children thrive in a peaceful classroom environment where their curiosity is nurtured.

Mrs. Johnson
Physics

Mrs. Johnson loves inspiring students to achievement in Physics. Mrs. Johnson taught for 4 years prior to coming to Belmont. She holds a B. S. in Physics Education and loves to teach students that science may be seen in all the world around us. She loves to help students accomplish challenging things and to grow in their academic confidence.

Mrs. Jorgensen
Calculus
Mrs. Jorgensen loves students and has a contagious enthusiasm for math. At the college level, Mrs. Jorgensen has taught students in College Algebra, Business Calculus, and Quantitative Reasoning with Integrated Algebra. At the Junior High and High School levels, she has taught students in PreAlgebra, Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, and AP Calculus. With a BS in Mathematics from Brigham Young University, Mrs. Jorgensen regularly puts her math expertise to good use, as a computer programmer, teacher, and mother.

Mrs. Kannely
Lower School

Mrs. Kannely is a dedicated Kindergarten teacher at Belmont with a passion for classical education. She believes in fostering a love for learning through engaging and creative teaching methods. Her experience at Belmont and previous schools has equipped her with the skills and insights necessary to create a nurturing and dynamic classroom environment with a focus on building a strong relationship with the student, encouraging curiosity, and promoting critical thinking from an early age. Outside the classroom, she enjoys exploring educational resources and continually striving to enhance her teaching practice and enrich her students' educational eperiences.

Mrs. Layton
Grammar School, Latin II
Mrs. Layton has more than 11 years of teaching experience and finds it exciting to introduce students to the beautiful and ordered Latin language. She teaches First Form Latin at Belmont. With a love of the model of classical education, she seeks to create an atmosphere of energy and engagement in the classroom and to help students build confidence in their ability to study difficult subjects. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from BYU and a Master of Arts in Hebrew and Biblical Studies from Hebrew College in Newton Centre, MA. 
Mrs. Simpson
Music, Choir
Mrs. Simpson loves to share the light of the Lord through music. She has taught music classes and directed choirs in public, private, and homeschool settings for the past 25 years and we are fortunate to have her teach music at Belmont Classical Academy. She received a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education with a music emphasis from Utah State University. She and her husband have 6 children, a son and daughter in law, and a grandson on the way. She loves being surrounded by children, music, and gardens.

Mrs. Morris
Latin; Information Technology

Well-grounded in classical, Christian education, Mrs. Morris earned her M.A. in Philosophy from Holy Apostles College and Seminary, did undergraduate work in Theology at Franciscan University, and received B.S. degrees in Economics and Accounting from the University of Kentucky. At the high school and college levels, she has taught courses in Composition, English Grammar, Latin, Literature, Logic, Math, and Computers. Prior to joining Belmont, Mrs. Morris served as Director of Curriculum at a classical school in Louisville, KY.

Mr. Safsten
Upper School Choir Director
Mr. Safsten is from Seattle Washington and has been a member of the BYU Men's Chorus, the BYU Concert Choir, South Sound, Jazz Choir, the Rythm and Soul Collective Gospel Choir, and a participant in many musicals and BYU operas. In addition, Mr. Safsten has directed the BYU Scandinavian Choir, the BYU Italian Choir, and many church ensembles. He has a strong belief in helping students become lifelong musicians and not just choral singers. For him, music is one of the most powerful tools for connection, self-realization, and creation. When not performing, Mr. Safsten loves to cook and play for the BYU Water Polo Club.

Art, Uniforms
Mrs. Shelley
Mrs. Shelley has been teaching art in one form or another for over 12 years. She has found joy in classical art technique and in helping each student find the value in learning visual art. Mrs. Shelley attended and has taught at various classical schools and has developed art curriculum for students from Pre-K through adulthood (including instruction in art therapy for special needs children). She completed her education in the visual arts, focusing on photography and illustration.  In her spare time, Mrs. Shelley enjoys spending time with her husband and three children in the mountains, and decompressing through her favorite art medium: painting in watercolor.

Mrs. Wood
Primary School Art, Campus Beautification
Mrs. Wood takes a special interest in each child. Knowing that each student is a child of God, Mrs. Wood carefully sets each child up for success in creating beautiful things. Mrs. Wood holds a BS in Child Development from Brigham Young University-Idaho and has taught young students in the classroom since 2014.
